LEMUEL E. DAVIS-This early pioneer to Oregon, and now a resident of South Newport, was born in Stark county, Ohio, September 5, 1832. When he was five years of age his parents moved to Marshall county, Indiana, and there our subject resided with his parents on a farm until March, 1847. He then, with his parents, came across the plains to Oregon with a train of forty seven wagons, known as the Captain Davis train. They came the southern route to Lane county, where they located a farm two miles north of Eugene City. In 1866 Mr. Davis came to Vaquina Bay and purchased his present property on the south side of the Bay, where he now resides. Mr. Davis also owns the steam ferry from Newport to Smith Newport, and a most desirable farm of 134 acres on Beaver creek.
