Benton County, Oregon Biographies





HON. JAMES GINGLES-Was born in Columbia county, Pennsylvania, February 18, 1819, and there resided until 1838, when his parents moved to Mercer county, Illinois, from whence our subject, in the spring of 1850, crossed the plains to Oregon. Coming direct to Benton county he took up his present farm as a donation claim, on which he has since lived, consisting of six hundred and forty acres, one mile south of the Polk and Benton county line, now Wells station. Mr. Gingles is a representative man of Benton county. He was elected to the State Legislature in 1864 and r868 and again in 1876, also serving in the called session of 1865, and for ten years was a member of the Board of County Commissioners for Benton county. Mr. Gingles now enjoys the confidence of the entire people of the county in the highest degree.
